Ajax defender Niklas Moisander admits his future may lay away from the Amsterdam giants
Rumoured Everton Target Prepared For Ajax Exit
Ajax and Finland captain Niklas Moisander was linked with a switch to Goodison Park at the turn of the year as Roberto Martinez looked to add to his defensive options before the close of the transfer window.
However, a move failed to materialise before the January transfer deadline with Moisander claiming his focus was only on Ajax and the interest from Everton was nothing more than a rumour.
The Finland international’s contract runs to 2015 and Ajax coach Frank de Boer will be looking to cash in rather than let the classy centre back run down his current deal.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Ajax boss de Boer says he is prepared for Moisander’s exit and the former Ajax and Dutch international defender believes his captain is ready to take the next step in his career.
“There is a big chance Moisander will leave the club,” said de Boer. “And I also think he is ready for the next step.”
“I would say he must be certain about the style of play of any interested club,” added de Boer.
“He is a defender who likes to play football – which would certainly rule out a lot of clubs.”
As with the reported interest in the January window, Moisander, who is currently in an Austrian training camp with his Ajax team mates, claims he remains totally focused on a new season in Amsterdam.
However, like de Boer, the 28-year old defender is also preparing himself for a summer transfer away from Ajax.
“If it [a transfer] happens, it will be towards the end of the transfer period,” said Moisander.
“And then it could suddenly happen – I know this is how these things work.”
“At the moment I’m totally focused on Ajax and as captain I have to set an example,” added Moisander.
